What does it mean to dream about a frog?

An egg becomes a tadpole, a tadpole loses its tail and grows legs — the frog is perhaps the animal that undergoes the most visible transformation in the whole of nature. It lives in both water and on land, between the unconscious and the conscious, between feeling and action. In the dream world, the frog carries this same capacity for transition and adaptation.

Dreaming about a frog is rarely a dramatic dream — but it tends to be a meaningful one. The frog shows up during periods when something in you is undergoing a change you may not have fully registered yet.

The frog goes through one of nature’s most visible transformations, on a par with the butterfly as a symbol of change. If the frog croaked loudly, it can read as a clear message from the unconscious: something wants to be heard. If the frog transformed while you dreamed, it’s often a sign that a transformation process is especially active right now. If the frog was dead or dried out, it can mean something has lost its vitality — perhaps the ability to move freely between states.
